Partner Spotlight: Internal Revenue Service
The Internal Revenue Service Stakeholder Partnerships, Education and Communication (IRS SPEC) is a long-standing partner of the Go Direct campaign and has helped raise awareness among taxpayers about the safety and reliability of electronic payments for federal benefit payments.
In the past year alone, the IRS SPEC has worked with the campaign in a variety of ways. It has:
-
Shared information with its field offices about the U.S. Department of the Treasury's December 2010 announcement that it will pay all federal benefit payments electronically.
-
Included a Go Direct campaign article about the move toward all-electronic federal benefit payments in the Outreach Corner section of IRS.gov.
-
Sent the Go Direct campaign's April "Retire the Check" special edition e-newsletter to more than 600 SPEC employees and key partners across the country.
In August, IRS SPEC worked closely with the Go Direct campaign on a mailing to volunteer tax preparation site managers and coalition leaders, encouraging them to get involved in the campaign. Treasury Department spokesperson Tepricka Morgan presented Go Direct campaign information during conference calls with the IRS SPEC's regional areas.
Did you know the IRS estimates four out of five eligible taxpayers claim and get their Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)? Your organization can help more taxpayers get this potentially life-changing tax credit by sharing information about local EITC sites in your community and raising awareness about EITC Awareness Day on January 27. Questions or more information on EITC Awareness Day materials can be submitted to Cecilia.Y.James@irs.gov.
Visit www.IRS.gov to learn more about the IRS and ways you can volunteer at a tax preparation site managed by the IRS. These sites provide free tax return preparation assistance to individuals during the tax filing season.
