Dear Partner,

Each year unbanked and underbanked people living near your bank or credit union have their taxes prepared at free volunteer-run tax sites. These sites offer you an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your community goodwill, as well as expand your customer or member base. Through our partnership with the Internal Revenue Service, Go Direct^® can introduce you to tax sites in your area and help you get involved:

• Sign up existing account holders for direct deposit of their tax refund and Social Security or other federal benefits to reduce lobby traffic and save costs.
• Open new accounts.
• Increase taxpayer awareness of other financial products available to them, e.g. remittances.
• Increase your visibility and goodwill in low-income communities and provide leadership opportunities for branch managers and community relations officers.
• Generate positive publicity for your organization at tax season kick-off events.

Go Direct is working closely with the IRS and volunteer tax prep coalitions around the country to offer a complete Go Direct program around volunteer-run tax sites. While tax season seems far away, planning for next year's tax season is already well underway. Volunteer training begins as early as October, and tax sites usually open for business at the end of January.
