Promote Senior Safety during Crime
Prevention Month
Senior safety is a message that resonates with federal benefit recipients – and there’s no doubt that direct deposit offers senior citizens more convenience and safety than paper checks. October is National Crime Prevention Month, and Go Direct partners are busy promoting senior safety:
- Police departments across the country are pairing up with local senior and community centers to hold senior safety workshops on preventing fraud and identity theft by choosing direct deposit. (For a list of the workshops, click here.)
- Financial institutions and non-profit partners can print out special Crime Prevention Month materials for use in newsletters, on Web sites and at events, to spread the safety message. For these materials and more, click here.
- Go Direct also helps partner organizations gain media exposure for their involvement in the campaign. Distribute a customizable Letter to the Editor to local media to boost your visibility in the community and spread the word about the benefits of direct deposit.

Updates to the Green Book: A Guide to Federal ACH Payments and Collections
The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Management Service has made recent updates to the Green Book – a comprehensive guide for financial institutions that receive ACH payments from the federal government and send payments to the federal government.
For Go Direct partners, the Green Book is a great resource for learning how to complete the enrollment process for government payments and to monitor performance in increasing direct deposit of Social Security payments – and for tracking individual progress for the Go Direct Champions program. Direct deposit tracking reports can help you gauge which Go Direct marketing efforts worked best for you in specific markets.
The Green Book is available at www.fms.treas.gov/greenbook and chapters can be printed as PDF documents.
To access the updated sections of the Green Book online – as of September 26, 2007 – click here. The updated sections include chapters one, three, four, six, seven and eight and the ACH payment schedule.
