U.S. Treasury advises Social Security check recipients to switch to direct deposit before hurricane season

Go Direct just issued a media alert advising Social Security check recipients who live along the Gulf Coast and Eastern seaboard to switch to direct deposit. The recommendation is aimed at safeguarding senior citizens and people with disabilities by ensuring seamless delivery of their federal benefit payments in the days following a hurricane or severe weather event. Help people with disabilities and their caregivers
Go Direct

Each month, millions of Americans with disabilities receive federal benefits, either directly or through a caregiver, such as a parent or other relative. In many cases, these payments come in the form of paper checks, which can be vulnerable to check fraud and forgery.

Your organization can help individuals with disabilities and their caregivers achieve greater independence and security with Go Direct. Switching to direct deposit for their Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments is a small but significant way to help them simplify their lives, gain more control over their money and protect themselves from identity theft and fraud.

Go Direct offers turnkey tools that your organization can use to promote direct deposit. To learn more, please visit the Individuals with Disabilities and Caregivers tool kit on the Go Direct Web site, call (952) 346-6055 or send an email to GoDirect@webershandwick.com today.

Promote Go Direct during Older Americans Month

For the past 44 years, the President of the United States has issued a national proclamation declaring May to be Older Americans Month – a special time to honor the contributions of seniors, past and present. Sponsored by the Administration on Aging, the theme for Older Americans Month 2007 is: "Older Americans: Making Choices for a Healthier Future.”

For seniors receiving Social Security or SSI payments, switching from paper checks to direct deposit is an important step they can take toward achieving a healthier financial future. If you are hosting events in honor of Older Americans Month, Go Direct encourages you to include information about direct deposit. Go Direct offers a special Older Americans Month Web banner that you can post on your Web site to promote direct deposit during May.

To learn more about opportunities to support the campaign during Older Americans Month and beyond, visit GoDirect.org, contact your local campaign representative or call 952-346-6055.
