February 2008
Go Direct Month is Here!
Go Direct Month is officially upon us! Our partners are working extra hard in February to get the word out about direct deposit – at events, in mailings, through the media and other channels. Partner activities will include:
- "Senior Squads." In New York and North Carolina, Senior Squads of key partners – including the AARP, Better Business Bureau and local law enforcement – will drive Go Direct branded cars to senior centers and community centers to distribute information about Go Direct and to call attention to the importance of direct deposit in the local media.
- Financial Literacy Summit. In Raleigh, NC, Go Direct partners will come together for a Go Direct Senior Financial Literacy Summit to raise awareness of the safety and convenience of direct deposit for federal benefits. Participants will include representatives from the AARP, North Carolina Attorney General's Office, FDIC and North Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services.
- Utility Newsletters. Several utilities will feature Go Direct information in their February newsletters, including:
- In New York, KeySpan Energy Corporation is including Go Direct information in its January/February newsletter, which is distributed to 1.6 million customers.
- In Illinois, Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) is running a Go Direct article in its monthly newsletter to 3.4 million residential customers.
- The City of Grand Prairie, Tex., a Dallas/Fort Worth suburb, is including a Go Direct article in its water bill newsletter, sent to 64,000 people.
- Workshops. The YMCA in Houston is conducting two senior safety workshops including Go Direct information.
- Materials distribution. Go Direct materials are being distributed at nearly 200 public library branches in Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department is also distributing Go Direct materials.
The campaign has free materials and information for Go Direct Month. The campaign is also offering a partner endorsement letter to the editor template featuring details about Go Direct Month. If you would like a copy of the letter to the editor to send to your local media, please call a campaign representative at (952) 346-6055.

Americans Rank Direct Deposit Their Top Money Management Tool
New poll results released this week by the Go Direct campaign show that Americans say direct deposit tops both ATM cards and checkbooks as their most important tool for managing personal finances. Yet, approximately one in three Americans still do not use direct deposit, including nearly 10.5 million Social Security recipients, despite the widespread opinion that direct deposit is reliable and safe.
