United States Treasurer thanks Go Direct partners

Dear Partner,

It's a wonderful feeling to be part of something that's making a positive difference for our country. I want to congratulate you — and sincerely thank you — for your participation this past year in the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Go Direct campaign.

As you know, Go Direct's goal is to motivate and assist senior citizens and others who receive federal benefit checks through the mail to switch to direct deposit. To date, Go Direct has helped more than 600,000 Americans enroll in direct deposit since the national campaign launched last year. That's 25 percent more than we set out to achieve! And we could not have done it without you — our dedicated partners and volunteers.

The Treasury is proud that Go Direct is working with more than 600 partners nationwide — banks and credit unions, community-based organizations, advocacy groups, elected officials and police departments. You, our partners, play a critical role in getting out the word about direct deposit to senior citizens and others who benefit from it the most. As you well know, direct deposit helps protect people against identity theft, gives people more control over their finances, and makes life a little easier - and it saves taxpayer dollars, too.

As we move into the second year of the campaign, new challenges and opportunities lie before us. We've set a goal to reach a total of one million enrollments in the year ahead, and I'm confident we can get there — especially if you and all our other partners continue reaching out to federal beneficiaries with the Go Direct message.

To help keep our partners engaged, the Go Direct campaign calendar features robust new programming, such as enrollment competitions, financial literacy workshops, media events and updated materials. Check for more details at www.GoDirect.org. If you have any questions, please call your Go Direct campaign representative, or (952) 346-6055.

Thanks once again for being a vital part of this very important initiative. Go Direct!

Sincerely,

Anna Escobedo Cabral - United States Treasurer

Go Direct introduces new enrollment form

As we informed you this summer, Go Direct has introduced additional security measures to its enrollment procedure, as part of our ongoing effort to protect the privacy and security of people receiving Social Security and other federal benefits.

In line with those changes, Go Direct has introduced a new paper direct deposit enrollment form, FMS Form 1200, for certain types of federal benefit payments. Click here to access the form. Click here for more details on the form.

Whether enrolling online, by phone, or by mail, benefit recipients wishing to sign up for direct deposit should have the following information on hand:

  • Name as it appears on the benefit check
  • Social Security number
  • Checking or savings account number
  • Bank or credit union routing number
    NEW
  • Amount of the most recent benefit payment
  • Check number from a recent benefit payment or the claim number from the paying agency
