Nation's Leading Banks Rally Around Go Direct
Newly launched campaign to spur direct deposit of Social Security is in the spotlight at
2005 BAI Retail Delivery Conference and Expo
ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 14 -- Less than two months after its national launch, the Go
Direct campaign today announced that more than 20 of the nation's largest banks,
credit unions and financial associations have signed on as national campaign partners. Go
Direct is an initiative of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve
Bank to motivate more Americans who receive Social Security to choose direct deposit over paper
checks.
For many years, direct deposit has been a priority for Treasury and the financial services industry. Go
Direct champions the Treasury's longstanding efforts to shift from paper payments
to direct deposit. The integrated campaign relies on trusted sources -- such as financial institutions
and community-based organizations -- to reach seniors, disabled people and other federal benefit
recipients where they live, work and socialize. Go Direct also uses
media outreach, direct mail, advertising and Web sites in English and Spanish. Go
Direct was launched nationwide Sept. 27, 2005.
